The Listening/Speaking component is created for university and college students who need to learn how to listen, take notes, and speak in academic settings. The students develop comprehension and note-taking skills through informal interviews, conversations, academic lectures, and speaking activities. Each theme is explored through the following activities: Get Ready, Informal Listening, Academic Listening and Note-taking, Completing the Cloze, and Speaking.
The Get Ready
stage allows students to identify the theme-related and appropriate vocabulary essential for convincing and serious note-taking and speaking. Through a variety of activities, students increase their own knowledge, gain self-confidence and develop a positive attitude towards listening, note-taking, and speaking.
The Academic Listening and Note-taking
section simulates the realistic classroom situation that academic students face. The conventions of note-taking are explained, and students are guided through the practice of both listening and note-taking skills.
The Speaking
section gives the students an opportunity to discuss some of the issues brought up in previous sections. The primary focus of this section is to improve oral fluency and communicative competence in English.
